Family Boat Tour on Skadar Lake — With Kids, Honestly
Which Skadar Lake boat tour works with young kids, what to bring, and what to skip.
With kids on Skadar, the right choice is a wooden boat from Poseljani, 3–4 hours, morning departure. Here's why.
Why wooden, not sport
Stable, low, easy to move around, quiet engine, big shade canopy. Sport boats are faster but they bounce and the sun is unrelenting.
Route that works for kids
Poseljani → water lilies → swim stop → Kom monastery quick walk → back. Three to four hours. Long enough to feel like a proper adventure, short enough that nobody melts down.
What to bring
- Swimsuits already on, towels
- Snacks — small, frequent
- Sun hats that clip on (they blow off otherwise)
- Reef-safe sunscreen
- Any water toys that fit in a bag
- Life jacket sizing checked before you leave the dock
Timing
Morning departure, before it gets hot. Aim for 9am. Back by 1pm for a proper lunch on the Virpazar square.
What to skip
Long sport-boat tours (too much time on the water), midday July departures (too hot), sunset for young kids (too late, too hungry).
