Hidden Beaches on Skadar Lake — Freshwater Swimming Spots Worth the Trip
Skadar Lake has quiet, clear-water swim spots most visitors never reach. Where they are and how to get to them.
People forget you can swim in Skadar Lake. Most tour boats don't stop long enough for a proper dip, which is a shame — the southern half of the lake has water so clear you can see stones at 4 metres, and there are quiet bays where you'll be the only ones in the water.
The three swim spots I actually recommend
Murići bay
Southern shore, accessible by boat or via a long back-road drive. Small pebble beach, warm shallow water, a restaurant for lunch. Best swim spot on the lake.
The hidden bay near Mala Gorica
Only reachable by boat. Your captain will know it. Deep clear water, no beach — you jump straight in from the boat. Bring water shoes if you plan to climb out onto the rocks.
Beach near Godinje
Small stretch of gravel on the western shore, accessible by car via a winding local road. Rarely busy. Water clean but shallow — better for wading with kids than for real swimming.
The realistic version
Book a private boat tour and tell the captain you want two swim stops. They'll know where to go based on wind and water level. Group tours rarely give you enough time for a proper swim.
