Kotor to Skadar Lake is doable but tight. Here's what actually works.
By car (the only realistic option)
1h45 via Cetinje and the mountain road, 1h15 via the coast if you time it right. Cetinje route is scenic and worth combining with a stop there.
- 07:30 leave Kotor
- 09:15 arrive Virpazar
- 09:30 boat tour (4h private is doable but tight; 2h group leaves more slack)
- 13:30 lunch
- 14:30 drive back, ideally via Cetinje for a coffee stop
- 17:00 back in Kotor
Should you actually do it?
Only if you have three or more days in Montenegro. Otherwise base yourself in Podgorica or overnight in Virpazar instead — much less driving. I compared the two properly in Skadar Lake vs Kotor Bay.
Better version
Leave Kotor after breakfast, drive to Podgorica via Cetinje, overnight in Podgorica, day-trip Skadar the next day. Splits the driving and you actually enjoy both.
